We hold regular meetings to discuss the running of the nursery to ensure each member’s voice is heard. Playmates is a non-profit making nursery but we do need to cover the costs of wages, craft materials, equipment and so forth from the fees that we charge.
We are a pre-school nursery catering for children from 3 months to 5 years of age and offer a wide range of opportunities for the children to combine fun with learning. We offer a warm and loving place for all of the children, giving them a secure foundation for their next stage of learning. We also run
before and after school care.
At Wem Playmates Nursery we compliment ourselves on giving the children the best possible start on their education, as we realise the importance of this aspect in their lives. We take into account the different developmental stages of each child and work with them accordingly. Each child is treated as
their own individual self and by working with them at their own pace, we can help them discover their full potential.
This approach teaches the children a sense of independence and responsibility. We enjoy a range of activities including painting, drawing, sand/wet play, clay, puzzles, music and movement, singing and storytime. We also try and take the children on educational visits at least once a term. We have visited
plays, puppet shows, farms and nature walks in the area. At Wem Playmates we have also celebrated many festivals including Chinese New Year, Diwali, Easter and Christmas, ensuring that different cultures are explored with the children.
Each child has a learning journal which enables their key person to record, track and monitor the child’s progress and development. This information is available to parents on request and is shared with the Reception Teacher on their transition to school. We have close partnerships with the surrounding schools, enabling the children to transfer to school with confidence. Children will meet their Reception Teachers at Wem Playmates prior to going to school and also have visits to their new school with the support of their key person.
We provide a healthy snack for the children during their session. This can vary from fruit and crackers to breadsticks etc. Any special dietary requirements are catered for if your child has a nut allergy, wheat allergy or is vegetarian. The children also have access to fresh drinking water throughout the session. We operate a Lunch Club where the children bring a healthy packed lunch from home and eat while developing their social skills. We have found this club very beneficial to the children and can make their transition into school life at dinner times easier from having this experience.
The EYFS sets all the standards that all early year providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well while being kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are school-ready and gives each child the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school life.
There are seven areas of learning and development set out by the early learning foundation stage that shape our educational programme. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.
These three prime areas are covered in our baby and toddler room, these are;
● Communication and Language
● Physical Development
● Personal, Social and Emotional development
When the children move to the preschool room we then include the other four areas which are;
● Literacy
● Mathematics
● Understanding the World
● Expressive Arts and Design
Here at Wem Playmates, we use these areas to develop our weekly planning which is both challenging and enjoyable for the children and considers their individual needs, interests and stage of development. Each area of learning and development is a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated activity.
